The piece Barry, Community Table, McGee Ave., and Oregon St. is part of a series of site-responsive projects called “Invisible Landscape," which started during my fellowship at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. This project is an exploration of the intricate relationship between physical and emotional environments, aiming to capture the essence of the intangible space that exists within them.

At the core of this endeavor lies the process of engaging with and interviewing local residents. Their voices, experiences, and perspectives form the foundation upon which this project is built. To manifest this site-responsive project, I rubbed paper on the asphalt, imparting a rough texture from the street surface. As a conceptual approach, the conventional street names were replaced with words carefully chosen by the residents themselves. These words serve as echoes of their feelings towards the ever-evolving nature of their neighborhood.

Through this process, I delve deeper into the realms of urban history, community identity, and the profound significance of listening to one another. By bridging the gap between past and present, Invisible Landscape seeks to instill a sense of belonging and foster a more intimate, homey community that can arise when we truly lend an ear to each other's stories."
